Meet the Team: Homer Williams
Homer Williams is one of the original UnSalted Nuts. When Heather called in 2017 and asked if he would like to participate in a completely crazy race in the Indian Ocean there was no hesitation. The adventure that we had in the Kraken Cup was likely easier than his first when he spent two seasons sailing on the knarr Snorri. When not being dragged onto various sailing expeditions, Homer demonstrates an insatiable need for speed on anything that moves, from motorcycles to foiling sailboats, and a hefty dose of the devil’s own luck.
When asked for an adventure resume, Homer responded, “Have dry bag, will travel.” While true, we’ve decided to add a bit of what we know about Homer’s history:
Crew aboard the 54’ Knarr, Snorri that crossed from Greenland to Newfoundland. The first attempt was in 1997, when the rudder broke. They completed the crossing on the second try in 1998.
Graduate of the Wooden Boat School.
Builder of well- whatever the heck he wants.
Also the reason Greg is bringing a scale to weigh gear and tools.
Ice Sailing enthusiast.
Ice motorcyclist
Crew aboard the Draken Harald Harfagre, 2018.
Kraken Cup Veteran, 2019.
Diver
Can fix anything on the fly, under pressure, even when his team dangles him shark-infested waters.
In our defense, he volunteered. Sort of.
Besides, we didn’t see any sharks. The water was too murky.
Enthusiastic driver who road-tripped solo to Montana and back to Michigan to acquire Sabrosa
We know we’re missing a lot, but this is all we’ve dragged out of him so far.
