The Maritime Heritage Alliance’s Schooner Madeline is built by, crewed by, and maintained by volunteers. She has been sailing the Great Lakes for 33 years-and she’s in trouble.

The Maritime Heritage Alliance completed and launched its flagship, Madeline, in 1990. She is the City of Traverse City’s Goodwill Ambassador, as well as the state of Michigan’s.

Madeline represents what the power of a dream can do. She has had thousands of schoolchildren across her deck and has traveled to over 80 ports to teach Great Lakes Maritime History. Anyone is welcome to take crew training and experience the Great Lakes in a whole new way. Connecting people to the region’s water, as well as local history.

Covid hit MHA hard, and increased costs are becoming crippling. To keep Madeline Sailing, there needs to be more funding sources. Traditionally she was supported by appearance fees. Now, those are dwindling. The Nuts are making a contribution to her from whatever you can kick in. We have a lot of dreams too, and keeping this one going feels like the right thing to do. You are also welcome to donate directly to the Maritime Heritage Alliance by kicking the button to their website above. Please put a note on it that says “Madeline Nuts” if you do!
